V0.0.2D is live! Career bonuses, factions, more!


Well, shortly after GDC I had to get a build setup for the Portland Indie Game (pigsquad) event "DRINKn DRAW!" It challenges people to draw the games they play, and win prizes for the best artwork. It was WAYYY more busy than I expected, and got a lot of feedback from it. This build is everything I worked on leading up to the event, and then some bug fixes from AFTER the event.


WHATS NEW

  • CAREER BONUSES! Every career has a nice bonus for helping you during the game
  • NEW CAREER: HUNTER! You can sneak the best, and start off with a rifle!
  • NEW CAREER: PROSPECTOR! you start off with gold pan and pickaxe, and get double the ore!
  • Pickaxe can now be used as a weapon
  • adjusted all career items and money
  • ENEMY FACTIONS! There is only one... but from here on out as the game randomizes it'll select random factions to place in game. Since there is only one made, it'll always spawn the "Dodge Gang" and their leader will always show up in the wanted screen.
  • Added enemy FORTS that can spawn in game. The dodge gang has 2!
  • The starting town has been overhauled to be more pleasant and accessible. The code used for this process will help to make more exciting towns later on
  • Update UI! Smaller, but with more specific details.
  • Character creator will now ask for a confirmation after making a character
  • you can go "back" in character creation to the title screen
  • You can only be hit by one attack at a time, preventing losing multiple HP instantly when surrounded
  • Overhauled the tempo/method of enemy AI To attack. All enemies take turns and (at a future time )the tempo of attacks can be different based upon the faction you're fighting
  • Enemies will try to avoid cactus and fire better
  • Enemies can parry! Watch out for yellow bandanas...
  • When selling it now shows how much your items are worth
  • Menus scroll side to side now
  • Added "combat" music when finding a wanted person
  • Fishing rods will come standard in stores
  • sped up time slightly
  • Swapped controls to use the "A" button (xbox controller) instead of the be button. Keyboard controls are the same
  • Doors will be open or closed depending on time of day
  • Sticks take longer to break
  • You can now sell sticks
  • Food takes longer to rot
  • Removed the third city (for now)
  • Changed the way you can navigate from merchant or loot menus to your menu
  • Added a UI popup for when you can slide or jump
  • Added  a little train during the loading screen
  • Tables are now smaller
  • adjusted the space enemies give you when surrounding you
    Lost mine is now invisible on the map
  • Intro will now prompt you to move on
  • Some optimizations were implemented for smoother gameplay
  • Reduced screenshake from giant robots


BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where items would just pop into existence
  • Fixed a bug where item names don't show on the loot screen, or sometimes in inventory
  • Fixed some graphical bugs with dresses and farmer clothes
    Fixed a graphical bug when reloading while facing down
  • Fixed a bug when sliding with feminine hair or being knocked back
  • Fixed a bug where you could have more than 100% food or water
  • Fixed it so you can't accidentally buy a heal when you open the doctor menu
  • Fixed some typos
  • Fixed a bug where bandits would constantly spawn in fire
  • Fixed a graphical glitch at 1920x1080 rez
  • Fixed a bug where enemies would stop attacking and just wait
  • Fixed a bug where the menu when accessing a campfire would persist
  • Fixed a bug where, when sleeping, a big Z would get stuck  on screen forever
  • Fixed a bug where you couldn't loot something you were standing on
  • Fixed a bug where status conditions would hang out at the top left of the screen
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes building insides would be too small to go into
  • Fixed a bug where you could miss an aimed shot because you turned the dpad a different direction at the last second
  • Fixed a bug where the rifle wouldn't go away after firing
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the bandit event wouldn't spawn enemies
  • Fixed a bug where enemies wouldn't stop showing an "anger" face, freezing it in place
