Interstellaria
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Interstellaria is a real time space-exploration sim and crew management game.
Command a fleet of vessels wandering the galaxy for adventure and profit! You’ll be forced to make tough decisions as you face hostile starships, crippling space anomalies, and intriguing aliens. When your fleet faces certain doom, should you direct your crew to make critical repairs, or report to their stations and boost your fleet?
Land your flagship on an alien world, allowing your crew to gather valuable resources for you— but be sure to equip them with powerful armor and weapons! It’s a dangerous universe out there, and although many helpful creatures will trade or share valuable information with you, many more will attack on sight!
Features
- Tactical crew management. Direct crewmen to put out fires, or repair damaged equipment. Posting them to their station boosts your fleet's speed and combat abilities.
- Customize your ship with helpful stations. Allocate power to important systems or simply outfit your ship with lasers and put all power into weapons!
- Your crew eats, sleeps, and needs entertainment. Each one develops unique traits throughout the game that help or hurt the mission. Various outfits and weapons can be found to customize them further.
- Fleet-based combat. Instead of controlling a single ship, you control multiple ships each with their own crew.
- Fully explorable galaxy, no areas are off limits. Each region has unique ships, aliens, and mysteries to find.
- Land your ships on planets! Each world is a new experience and has special rewards for you and your crew.
- Featuring an all-original soundtrack from the incredibly popular chiptune musician Chipzel.

If you play to long without leaving, the planetary surfaces loading becomes corrupted. If this happens and you save your game (even in space) the save file becomes locked and cannot be loaded without freezing. This is on windows.
Hey guys, It seems like I can't get it to run on a Mac OS 11.6. I tried everything, converting the game folder to an .app, it starts but with a black screen and nothing happens. Anybody has an idea?
I would really appreciate it, cheers!
Also having problems installing with the itch.io game launcher. If you could mark the downloads as being for their respective OS, that should fix the problem.
done!
Is it possible to install it with the itch.io game manager? It does not work for me.
Thanks!
When I run the game (even in Win 7 compatibility as people have mentioned) it just shows a completely broken display. I think it's meant to be the title screen but it's just a mass of red and white.
Really ambitious project that unfortunately gets let down by a few bugs (Tutorial unfinishable, pathfinding bugged, some questionable UI decisions). Despite all of this, exploring this univers, figuring out its rules, micromanaging the crew and ship combat while upgrading the capabilities of your ship is rather engaging and the game gradually expands the options at your disposal. If you are in the mood for some space exploration and dont mind saving often enough so you dont get screwed by something weird, then this is absolutely worth checking out. 3,5/5

Can't get the game to work, it gets stuck into a loading screen in the tutorial, and Options menu is just a blank screen.
Hey, 3 month later and still no patch? :(
I just download the game, couldn't run on win10 1440p monitor without compatibility with win7. After cutscene on tutorial, I was stuck on infinite loading window with music in backgound (music was lit tho). Can't open options without going black screen and skipping tutorial crashes the game after half a second.
Please fix this :(
cant get it to work if i go into options its just a black screen if i say yes to skip the tutorial i get the newspaper opening there but frozen after a few seconds if i do tutorial it will do the cinematic but it will load forever.
so has ANYONE on windows been able to play the game?
Yeah, I was able to with no problem, on the current version. I'm not sure of what's happening on your computer, but the game is unfortunately by no means perfect anyways. It feels like a beta.
I am still unable to play..Game does'nt crash, But i'm not seeing anything, Not even the menu screen.
After first night: I LOVE this. The graphics, the gameplay.. It's pretty awesome!
Several days in. I still love it, but I've noticed a few bugs. No show-stoppers, in order of priority:
And here are some things I would wish for:
This seems like a fun game, even if it's rough around the edges. Unfortunately (on Mac), when I load my last save, it shows a 99% loading screen indefinitely.
It seems that the game is actually active behind that screen, but for some reason, it won't go away. I've tried switching resolutions, went into and out of fullscreen, but nothing worked so far.
If I find a workaround, I'll post it. Shame, it really seems like it would be a fun game to explore.
Immediately after this post, I tried again, and seem to have found a fix. However, it's probably hard to replicate. I *think* there was a dialog hidden behind the loading screen, and this time I just happened to be able to click on the invisible OK button.
I *also* switched to the highest possible resolution in this attempt, but I don't believe that contributed to the fix, other than making the invisible button bigger.
Confirmed - after a load the loading 99% screen stays overlaying some dialog. In windowed mode, you can find and click that button by trial and error but it is a key pain point. This needs to be fixed, as it happens with every save file. (Reproducibility 1/11, Platform: Win)
Im on windows and when i try to run the game this error shows up
Same... well, similar. Main display is 1440p, and mine says "Switching to resolution 1920x1080 failed, trying lower one" over and over. Game looks cool; hope I get to play it some day!
me to... i played once, but when i tried to get in later, i get this. My main display is 3840 x 2160 n it sais
Switching to resolution 1024x768 failed, trying lower one
All resolution switches have failed
Screen: could not switch resolution (1024x768 fs=0 hz=0)
thx if any1 could help :/
I had the same error. Running the exe in Windows 7 compatibility mode made it go away, and the game runs fine.
ummm tbh i dunno that much about that kinda stuff, could i do that for win10?
thx anyways tho
I'm on windows 10, so yes, it works.
1. Go to the folder where you installed the game. (If you used the itch.io app to install it, right-click on the Launch button, and select "Open folder in explorer"from the menu that appears. In the explorer window that appears, double click on the "win" folder to open it)
2. Right click on the file called "Interstellaria" or "Interstellaria.exe" and select "Properties" (On my computer, it is the last item on the list) This should make a properties window appear.
3. In the properties window, select the Compatibility tab.
4. In the section marked "compatibility mode" tick the checkbox next to "run this in compatibility mode for:" and then select "Windows 7" from the dropdown menu.
5. Hit the apply button, then the ok button, and then try running the game. Windows should remember this setting, so you'll only have to do it the one time.
Having the same problem on Win7. Shame, it looked interesting.
So this appears to be the yet another game to fall victim to an issue on itch.io for Mac where an important file is mislabeled as a text file and prevents the game from launching.
For everyone wanting mac here is a relatively simple fix
credit to @jeremychu for this as this is just a streamlined version of what he says to do without so much terminal use
Note: The chmod +x command modifies the file and tells your mac that it is supposed to be executed like an app instead of read like a text file. The file we are modifying is the one the app uses to launch but the dev forgot to mark the file as executable so thats all we are doing here.
step 1: find the app in finder
Step 2: Right click or ctrl click on app and click show package contents
step 3: the last step should bring up a folder labeled "Contents" within that open the "MacOS" folder you should see a file labeled OSX (there are alot of files in here but this one should have a sheet of paper as its icon.
Step 4 open terminal and type "chmod +x "(note the space after x) drag the file we just found into the terminal window and then hit enter it should look something like this [chmod +x stuff/stuff/stuff/stuff/OSX]
Step 5 Its fixed navigate back to where you started on step 1 open the file like a normal itch io game and enjoy
If you dont know how to open it or its not working after this the next steps are for you otherwise your done.
Step 6 right click on app and click open it will give you a popup that this is downloaded from the internet hit "ok"
Step 7 right click again and click open it will give you another popup. click "open" on the popup.
I found a red screen the first time i opened it I then went pack to the OSX file and double clicked that and gave it permission to access downloads that worked for me. The other thing you could do is try closing it and reopening if you get a red screen
All i'm getting when trying to run the game is a pretty shade of pink and gentle music..This occurs when windowed or fullscreen.
same here, hopefully theres either a workaround or fix for this
Hopefully the next patch will fix most of these problems. Sorry for issues :/ They're all related to the same bug and are only present on SOME devices.
I'm glad that another patch is underway. There are little typos here and there (especially "crewmen" being used as a singular noun), and it was never made clear that your starting ship seems to only have space for a refrigerator or a stasis chamber but not both; I have no idea of how to solve my crew members' lack of sleep. The tutorial also makes zero mention of WASD, which would really help.
EDIT: The more I play, the more I feel like there are lots of bugs in this otherwise-impressive game because I try to click on trash to loot on worlds, even if I have two characters selected who both have empty inventories for spare stuff, and then the trash, like, grays out and becomes unclickable forever. What's going on here?
Additionally, it would be really nice if the crew equipment screen changed dynamically to whoever you currently change your selection to (if you select an individual at a time).
When I click on "OPTIONS", I get a black screen with only the cursor.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
Starting the game plays the cutscene properly, but then I'm stuck on LOADING semmingly indefinitely.
(this is on windows)
Same problem here ! Also it seems after the game first cutscene, i'm stuck in an infinite loading time.
Yeah, same problem with options (black screen) and infinite loading screen after the cutscene.
I'm also on Windows
Exactly the same issues, Windows too
Mac says that it can't open the game any help at all?
It won't open for me either (also on Mac).
Same! wonder if it's not been upated for newer versions of MacOS? I'm on Catalina

im getting command not found
your not typing the command right then is the most likely problem there needs to be a space after x and nothing before the command also a space after chmod
oh ok I think I'm not putting a space after chmod
Reminds me a lot of Star Control, one of my all time favorite game series. Great work!
The game crashes when I try to switch resolution
The crash only seems to happen in windowed mode, not fullscreen.
so how do i launch it in fullscreen then?
Switch to full screen in the game options first, then switch resolution after.
why does it say to lower the resolution every time i try to open it up?
Hopefully the next patch will fix most of these problems. Sorry for issues :/ They're all related to the same bug and are only present on SOME devices.
Thanks for working away on the issues! We appreciate i
heres hoping! thanks!
Are you a dev? if so Im curious do you know what is causing the issue where the launch file is not labeled as an executable. Its a super easy fix. I have seen three other games with this problem and am wondering if its an Itch io bug or something with how mac is handeling these downlaods or you all just forgot or it was something else? Now that I think about it its possible its a Unity issue
I've also found that when starting this game up on mac it just sits at a black screen. Unfortunate because the concept actually sounds like it'd be really fun to play
So, I've got latest version of the game, but it's unplayable. When I skip tutorial, game freezes when displaying news window, and similar thing happens when I try to play with tutorial.
i get this too + choosing options in the main menu goes to a black screen
Please how do I "swap guns to 'on' setting"?
close everything open ingame you have a window covering the buttons
